Each work in the series You and Me has the same source image: how current circulates around two magnetic poles--but the focus of each work is different. By shifting the thread colors through the grayscale, areas of the drawing are pulled forward while others disappear: in one work the energy between the two poles is a blaze of white; in another it collapses into a black hole. Together they tell a story of the attraction and repulsion, immersion and escape that are negotiated as part of a relationship.
This relationship has been summed up in many a rock song (hence the subtitle for each work) and I certainly am playing off the clichés of romantic love. But the personal motivation behind the work is the relationship between mother and child and the roller coaster ride of parenthood.
